Accountability Game
One of the problems we're trying to solve is attaching external accountability to things for which we ourselves are the only ones accountable. If, for instance, I don't send an invoice that I'm supposed to send, the only one who's really going to have a problem with that is me.
But if I struggle to maintain the proper discipline needed to invoice on time, then my cash flow suffers. How do I get somebody else on my case for something like that?
How do I put it in someone else's vested interest that I get my stuff done?
One idea I'm working on is a game, where we all are motivated for everyone to get their stuff done. Here's one idea:
Rules to the CoStructure Accountability Game
1. Everybody puts an equal share of money in a hat.
Let's say it's $50 each. There's four of us right now, so that's $200.2. Set a finite, specific list of achievable goals.
Everybody puts things on the list that they absolutely should do, but won't face external pressure to do otherwise. This could be "write 3 blog posts" or "enter receipts" or "do my bookkeeping," for instance.3. Get to work.
Nobody gets their money back until everybody's done with what they need to do.4. Reward.
When you all complete your tasks, you not only get your money back, but you spend it together on a predefined celebration goal-- a nice dinner, or a fancy cocktail bar. After all, this game is no fun if you stand to lose money :-)
This is super early, but an interesting idea we might try out at some point.
